MalaMala sits against the western boundary of Kruger, in Mpumalanga. Zimanga lies about 330 km south, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

MalaMala & Zimanga · South Africa

Seventy-six frames from two very different reserves in South Africa.

MalaMala runs to 13,500 hectares along the Sand and Sabi rivers, with no fence between it and Kruger, so the game moves freely between the two. It began as a hunting property in 1927 and was given over to photography in 1964.

Zimanga was the first reserve in Africa built specifically for photographers. Its hides, designed with the Hungarian photographer Bence Máté, include underground bunkers at night waterholes and a lagoon hide set at eye level with the water.
